In early April, Sheridan’s world-renowned Theatre Sheridan program celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Dozens of students, faculty, audience members, donors and alumni gathered at Sheridan's Marquee space at its Trafalgar Road Campus to mark the occasion with a gala event. Attendees could explore displays of Theatre Sheridan work from the past 50 years, sample food and drink, hear from leaders in programs and enjoy live performances from students in the Honours Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance program

“Theatre Sheridan is such an important part of the community here at Sheridan, but also an important part of the community in our surrounding areas,” said Mark Jones, Dean of the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design. “For over 50 years, we’ve seen time and time again how the students, staff and faculty of this incredible ecosystem continue to produce some of the finest talents [...] of any theatre company in the country.”

The event was capped with those in attendance seeing the closing show of Theatre Sheridan's musical Mary Poppins, having ended its sold-out run.

Janet Morrison
Janet Morrison, President and Vice-Chancellor at Sheridan College, spoke to attendees about the fundamental role art and performance play in the mental health and wellbeing of communities. “Your continued support of Theatre Sheridan is in fact also in support of those communities, and the mental health and wellbeing of their community members,” she said.
