Sheridan is excited to offer youths in its campus communities the opportunity to learn from the expertise and mentorship of Sheridan faculty and instructors through a suite of summer camps, touching on many of Sheridan’s hallmark programs.

Returning this summer are free STEM-focused camps, open to youths in Peel and Halton who want to explore opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies. Sheridan experts and industry guests will give campers hands-on experience with the latest technologies.

“We’re excited to invite members of our community to our Davis campus at Sheridan to participate in fun and educational summer camps,” said Dr. Elizabeth Fabbroni, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology. “Our expert faculty and instructors, state-of-the-art facilities and engaging programming will help these youths explore careers in STEM fields they may not have considered or know about. These camps may spark innovative thinking and inspire campers to pursue studies in STEM fields, and become the next generation of industry professionals.”

  • Skills Ontario Summer Camps are week-long day programs at Sheridan’s Davis Campus in Brampton for youths entering grades 7-8. Through hands-on activities relevant to the skilled trades and by completing projects using industry-grade equipment, campers will develop communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills. Campers will take part in workshops led by Skills Ontario counselors and industry and college professionals that introduce them to a variety of topics in the industrial, construction, welding, plumbing and precision machining sectors. They’ll explore careers in skilled trades through interactive games, industry guests and pathway information. The camps are funded by Access Programs in Ontario and Pathways to education (OPAIP) and provide space for local youths to explore opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies, while at the same time build their skills for the workforce and consider what career path is right for them. • Applied Computing Camps are week-long day camps for students entering grades 9-12 interested in the exciting world of computing. Campers will explore the basics of web development, get hands-on with app development, and delve into the world of cybersecurity. Campers receive expert instruction and hands-on experiences in a fun, engaging environment while gaining insights into potential career paths and making lasting connections with like-minded peers. Applied Computing Camps take place throughout the month of July.

Sheridan is also working with long-time partner ArtHouse to host camps this summer at the Trafalgar Road Campus, providing children and youths with little or no access to extra-curricular programs the opportunity to participate in arts programming to help foster emotional well-being. Elsewhere, though a partnership with Mississauga Nation, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and University of Toronto Mississauga, Sheridan hosted an event earlier this summer that brought together Mississauga Nation youths from across Ontario to participate in a week-long videography camp.

Summer camps, and other programs showcasing the transformative power of postsecondary education, are an integral part of Sheridan’s mission statement. In partnership with youth-serving organizations across Halton and Peel, programs such as Skills Ontario Summer Camps under the Youth Amplified banner seek to intentionally forge pathways to postsecondary for equity-deserving groups.
