Leaving an Impression

Renee Brisson-Khan applies the winning combination of creativity, technological skill and business savviness to keep ahead of the curve in the graphic design field.  As Owner and Creative Director of RBK Artworks, Renee (Art Fundamentals, 1994 and Illustration, 1997) and her team specialize in brand management for their diverse client base.

“Sales is our focus, that’s what makes us different,” she explains, plus a commitment to embracing the latest technology “to help companies bridge the gap between old and new.”

Currently, the Brampton-based company’s attention is set on developing digital publishing, specifically, creating digital publishing content in an app-based form to give users an interactive reading experience.

“Branding is not just a logo, it’s about leaving an impression,” Renee says.  “You need to do this in a lot of different ways, whether it’s through online, print, direct mail and trade show communications.”

Renee brought nine years of teaching high school communications and visual fine art, as well as freelance experience to RBK Artwork which she opened in 2007. Running her own shop has given Renee the flexibility to build the business and raise a family, along with husband and fellow graduate Aamir Khan.  Her Sheridan ties are evident within the company: In addition to Aamir Khan (General Arts & Sciences, 1995 and Early Childhood Education, 1996), who is Sales Director, two additional staff including an alumni and a current student form the RBK team.  A committed mentor, Renee regularly offers training seminars to current and past students, both at the high school and post-secondary levels.

Renee’s drive and creative mindset led her to make the most of her time at Sheridan and paved the way for her professional development. She held positions within the Student Union government, including President from 1997-1998, and designed the first-ever student handbook. An internship with the Creative Services Office taught her the basics of brand management. The leadership skills she developed as a student and in the years following graduation have proven effective in her executive roles with the Business Network International (Golden Horseshoe region) and as an Ignite presenter at Print + e-Publishing Conferences.
