Pilon School of Business graduate accelerates EDGE's on-campus growth
Generator at Sheridan’s EDGE entrepreneurship hub continues to support vibrant and equity-deserving communities in scaling up their ventures and encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset. Sheridan students also play an important role in supporting their efforts.
While studying in the Pilon School of Business Business Analysis & Process Management program, Meghna Rajendra Shah applied for a student ambassador opportunity at EDGE that was listed on the SheridanWorks job-posting platform. She first joined EDGE as a co-op student in September 2023 and continued working part-time while also pursuing a post-graduate certificate in Project Management.
Working closely with EDGE student engagement manager Dr. Nadine Sinno, Shah was involved in expanding student engagement through events and programming — including helping to launch Thrive, EDGE’s signature entrepreneurship program which provides hands-on training and mentorship for students developing business ideas. Through workshops, class visits, networking events and other activities, she helped the team expand student membership from 360 to over 3,600. Her efforts as a student ambassador for EDGE have been recognized with a Co-op and Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) and Pilon School of Business Co-op Student of the Year award (2023-2024).
“As an international student myself, I understood the challenges many students faced navigating a new country, building a career, and finding a sense of belonging,” said Shah. “Many students came to EDGE looking for guidance, connections, and a community that believed in their potential. We were able to instill in them the confidence that they don’t always have to be job seekers, they could one day become job creators instead.”
Now a Sheridan graduate and full-time Coordinator of Student Engagement at EDGE, Shah’s experience has given her the opportunity to strengthen her skills in leadership, communications and problem-solving, in addition to learning about the importance of inclusivity and community building. Beyond the key competencies gained, she feels proud to have played a role in building and shaping services to empower students.
“Before this experience, I hadn’t fully considered the range of career opportunities within entrepreneurship, but I now see how versatile and dynamic this path can be,” said Shah. “The experience has helped me develop an entrepreneurial and growth mindset, which will guide me as I move forward in my career.”
