Sheridan places in top 10 on Forbes’ list for Canada's Best Employers for Diversity

Sheridan was named to Forbes’ list of Canada's Best Employers for Diversity that was released Tuesday — ranking 10th overall and the highest of any college in Canada.
Employers were selected based on innovative methodology from Statista, guaranteeing unbiased results and reliable insights from over 10,000 surveyed professionals working for companies with a minimum of 500 employees in their Canadian operations. The evaluation was based on direct recommendations from employees, indirect recommendations through industry evaluation, diversity among senior leadership, and diversity engagement indicators.
“We are thrilled to be recognized for our commitment to diversity, which we know fuels excellence here at Sheridan and beyond,” says Dr. Janet Morrison, Sheridan’s President and Vice Chancellor. “Across our three campuses, we’re making meaningful strides towards developing an equitable and inclusive community by actively embedding these values into policies, procedures and decision-making at all levels of the institution.”
Just last month, Sheridan’s Vice President of Inclusive Communities Dr. Jane Ngobia was recognized with a Silver Award of Excellence for Leadership in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) by the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP). Since joining Sheridan in 2019, Dr. Ngobia has helped the college take strong, definitive steps to embed EDI principles across learning and business operations. She established Sheridan’s first EDI Advisory Council, and has consistently engaged the Sheridan community through a listening tour and a number of roundtables and focus groups. Dr. Ngobia and her team have helped infuse EDI into academic research, launched the first employee self-identification census, created mandatory anti-racism training for employees, supervised equity assessments, and supported the implementation of more equitable hiring practices.
“We are continuing to create conditions where all employees and students are empowered to participate in the full range of activities that Sheridan offers, bringing their full potential and experiences to maximize creativity and to contribute to Sheridan’s success,” says Dr. Ngobia.

The Forbes news comes on the heels of the announcement that Sheridan ranked eighth overall on Forbes’ 2022 list of Canada’s Best Employers that was released in January — the highest ranking that a college has finished in the history of the annual survey. No other Ontario postsecondary institution finished in the top 10 of this year's Canada's Best Employers rankings, and only one other college in the province was among the 300 employers on the list.
Forbes highlighted Sheridan’s COVID-19 response when publishing the results, particularly its innovative strategies to keep employees engaged and supported during the pandemic.
