International collaboration on display at Sheridan’s SIRT during ICFF Industry Days
Bringing international collaborators together in the film and media industries helps bring creative visions to life and can generate economic impacts on a global scale. The Screen Industries Research and Training (SIRT) Centre, an integral part of Generator at Sheridan, will help drive that tradition by hosting the Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) Industry Days for another year on November 29-30, 2023. Taking place in-person on Stage 10, SIRT’s 10,000 square foot sound stage at Pinewood Toronto Studios, and virtually through YouTube Live, this popular industry event brings together key players in the Canadian and Italian film and media industries for a series of panels, presentations, and knowledge sharing opportunities.
ICFF Industry Days is an opportunity for filmmakers and industry professionals to meet, learn and network together, leading to fruitful collaborations and co-productions. The event has often focused on Canadian and Italian co-productions in film and television series, and the experiences shared. This year’s theme is “Empowering New Collaborations between Italy and Canada.”
SIRT's involvement with ICFF Industry Day has continued to showcase the Centre’s partnership with ICFF and of their support in fostering networking opportunities within the film and media industries in Toronto. As a leader in driving innovation in the screen-based industries, SIRT plays a vital collaborative role with ICFF’s Industry Days, showcasing new skills and techniques for members of the Canadian and Italian film and media industries. At last year’s event, SIRT hosted two panels - ‘Artificial Intelligence and Digital Humans: A Conversation About the Future of Entertainment’ with David Usher, founder of Reimagine AI, where SIRT discussed the partnership and how their work on digital humans was awarded a patent; and ‘Virtual Production: Has It Transformed the Way We Make Content?’ which featured a review of leading virtual production applications along with need-to-know tools and techniques.
“This is SIRT’s eleventh year of involvement with the Italian Contemporary Film Festival and underscores our commitment to innovation growth and impactful engagement locally, nationally and internationally. Hosting Industry Days provides our Centre a wonderful opportunity to build relationships within the industry while continuing to demonstrate our innovation expertise in the field,” said Myles Bartlett, Interim Director, SIRT.
