Sheridan once again ranked top animation school in Canada, second in world
For the sixth straight year, Sheridan is the top animation college in Canada according to Animation Career Review's annual rankings.
Sheridan also placed second in Animation Career Review's 2024 rankings of the top 50 international animation schools and colleges (excluding schools from the United States), which considers nearly 200 schools from across the globe that offer formal degree programs (bachelor's degree or equivalent) in animation. This marks the fourth straight time Sheridan has placed second in the international category, and the sixth consecutive year in which Sheridan has placed in the top two.
Animation Career Review has published its rankings of international animation schools each year since 2013. Ranking criteria includes academic reputation, employment data, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of programs, and value in relation to tuition and indebtedness.
As Canada's largest arts school, Sheridan offers a competitive Honours Bachelor of Animation degree — a four-year, hands-on program that emphasizes classical principles of animation in a variety of forms, including 2D digital, 3D and stop motion — as well as post-graduate certificates in computer animation, visual effects and digital creature animation.
"This most recent recognition from Animation Career Review further demonstrates Sheridan's commitment to remain at the fore of this constantly evolving industry, and is a testament to the creativity, dedication and talent of our faculty, alumni and students," says Mark Jones, Dean of Sheridan's Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design. "Sheridan is extremely proud of its rich legacy as an international leader in animation education, including being the first college in Canada to teach classical animation and then the first to offer instruction in computer animation.”
Graduates of Sheridan's animation programs regularly go on to work with globally renowned studios such as Disney, Pixar, Nelvana, Sony Pictures Animation, Guru Studio, Atomic Cartoons, Wildbrain and House of Cool. Seven Sheridan-trained animators have won Oscars, including Turning Red director Domee Shi (Bachelor of Animation '11) and former Pixar animator Alan Barillaro (Animation '96). Sheridan graduates also worked on three of the five films nominated in the Best Animated Feature category of this year's Academy Awards: Nimona, Elemental and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
