Shahnaz (Shani) Samuel came to Canada in 1993. She had a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the National College of Arts in Lahore. Soon after her arrival, she realized that she needed a Canadian education to get architectural work experience. She decided to take the Architectural Technology program at Sheridan College to bring her up-to-date with the Ontario Building Code and construction technology.

Since then, Shani has completed the OAA internship program and accreditation. She is a licensed architect with the Ontario Association of Architects and has LEED certification. She runs a private consulting firm and is also a professor at Sheridan College, teaching Architectural Technology courses in the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology.

Shani’s family and professional life have never taken her away from her love of serving and volunteering in the community. In fact, her love and desire to serve is growing deeper every day. Currently, she volunteers at her church (The Portico), the Ontario Association of Architects, and as Secretary of Red Shawl, a women’s community organization.

Shani lives by the words, “All things are possible to one who believes!” (Mark 9:23)
