A full professional skill set

  • Plan and decorate residential and small commercial environments, from programming to final presentation drawings.
  • Draft using professional standards to visually communicate details and design concepts.
  • Freehand draw, sketch and apply mixed media to presentations.
  • Design and implement marketing and sales strategies.

Flexible and collaborative learning

Using your own laptop, you'll work collaboratively with faculty and classmates while enjoying 24/7 access to coursework, lecture notes, assignments, presentations and other resources. Because it mimics the structure of the workplace, this learning model gives Sheridan graduates a significant advantage in the job market.

Additional information

In Sheridan's two-year Interior Decorating diploma program, your creativity will be nurtured.

Industry professionals — including suppliers, decorators and designers — are invited as guest lecturers to speak on a variety of subjects. You'll also gain knowledge of the Ontario Building Code.

You'll enter the work force with a developed interior decorating sensibility, plus the business acumen to compete for clients and run an efficient, profitable business.

Design competitions

Our students have consistently taken honours in the Decorators & Designers Association of Canada (DDA, previously CDECA) Design Competition.

Interior Decorating students also participate in the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) Design Competition.

DDA-recognized institution

Decorators & Designers Association of Canada Recognized InstitutionSheridan's Interior Decorating diploma program is recognized by the Decorators & Designers Association of Canada (DDA™). The most influential association for decorators and design industry professionals in Canada.

Opportunities for further education

After completing your two-year Interior Decorating program and building your portfolio, you may be interested in applying to Sheridan's Honours Bachelor of Interior Design program.

Program duration

Program duration for September starts is two academic years. Program duration for January starts is 16 months continuous.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including these required courses:

  • One English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U) 

or

Mature student status.

Applicant Selection

Eligible applicants are selected based on previous academic achievement (the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including required courses above).

Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program may be advised individually regarding other related programs.

English Language Proficiency

Learning Outcomes

Successful completion of the program will enable the graduate to:

  • Analyze client's needs and goals to create a decorating solution.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the completed decorating project based on the specific requirements of the client.
  • Communicate using a variety of formats (such as verbal, written, visual and digital) to describe the decorating concept to the client and contractors.
  • Assess and select materials and finishes to be used in the decorating project, to meet the needs of the client.
  • Prepare technical documents as necessary for the implementation of the final decorating solution.
  • Collaborate with a variety of design and decorating professionals and other industry specialists for the implementation of the decorating solution.
  • Employ customer relationship management practices to maintain a positive reputation as an interior decorator that will encourage repeat business or referrals.
  • Employ project management to manage the time, resources and costs required to implement the decorating solution to meet the needs of the client.
  • Adhere to industry standard codes, regulations and by-laws when creating a decorating solution.
  • Employ environmentally responsible and sustainable practices in the selection of materials and products used in the decorating solution.

Transfer Opportunities

Easily transfer to the Bachelor of Interior Design at Sheridan

If you decide you want to further your education and knowledge, transferring to our Honours Bachelor of Interior Design degree program is easy!

Graduates of Sheridan's Interior Decorating diploma with a minimum 3.0 program GPA may be eligible to seamlessly transfer into Year 2 of Sheridan's Honours Bachelor of Interior Design degree program and receive credit for your academic achievement.

Admission requirements for entry into Year 2 of Sheridan's Honours Bachelor of Interior Design program

  • English, Grade 12 (ENG4U) or Sheridan’s COMM19999 or equivalent with a minimum 65%
  • Sheridan’s Interior Decorating diploma with a minimum 3.0 GPA

Interior Decorating graduates eligible for direct entry into Year 2 of the degree program are not required to meet the Honours Bachelor of Interior Design math requirement. However, it is in every applicant's best interest to complete a Grade 11 or 12 Mathematics (U or M level) with a minimum final grade of 60%.

  • Degree completion students must complete ENGL 17889GD Composition and Rhetoric in Year 2 of the program.

Eligible applicants will be selected on the basis of their previous academic achievement. The number of seats available for Year 2 direct entry is limited; meeting admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.

Apply through myStudentCentre: If you've recently been enrolled in a Sheridan program (Fall 2021 or later), you can apply directly to Sheridan through our internal application process on myStudentCentre. (In your dashboard, select the "Registration Status" tile and then "Apply to new program" to get started.) Select the Fall Start Term, then program “Honours Bachelor of Interior Design Degree Completion – PBDDB (2 years)” from the dropdown menu.

Sheridan graduates from before Fall 2021 and non-Sheridan graduates

Apply through ontariocolleges.ca: If you're new to Sheridan, or if you completed your studies at Sheridan before Fall 2021, you'll need to apply through ontariocolleges.ca. To apply as a Degree Completion student, select program "Honours Bachelor of Interior Design Degree Completion – PBDDB" within the ontariocolleges.ca application.

Block Transfer

Block Transfer will be awarded based on the following chart and program map for students who completed Sheridan's PINDE Interior Decorating program. Previously earned open General Education courses will be counted towards the PBAID Honours Bachelor of Interior Design program requirements and be calculated in the GPA.
