Program Overview
Become a professional music theatre performer
Get theoretical and practical training in the core disciplines of acting, singing and dancing. Through a comprehensive and holistic approach, you’ll have classes five days a week, with weekly private acting/singing tutorials. You'll develop professional practices and life skills that will help you become a highly skilled and knowledgeable professional performer.
Benefit from Sheridan's reputation for music theatre excellence
This remains the most sought-after music theatre program in Canada not just because of Sheridan’s facilities and faculty, but also because of the individualized training that our students receive — even while learning in a highly collaborative and ensemble environment. The calibre of our graduates draws attention from audiences and performing arts industry recruiters.
Train in a forward-thinking and supportive community
To succeed in this industry, you must be able to respond to an ever-evolving field and maintain personal health and wellness in a rigorous and demanding professional environment. Sheridan’s music theatre program is designed with all of this in mind. The curriculum also aims to amplify diverse voices and provide space for different learning perspectives and philosophies.
Program features:
- Personalized instruction and coaching in acting, singing and dancing, with plenty of face time with instructors.
- Professional guidance to polish your auditioning skills and work ethic.
- Opportunities to showcase your performing arts talent in high-profile settings.
- A special focus on business and entrepreneurial skills that prepares you to assume leadership roles in the entertainment industry or to create your own production companies.
This degree program offers tremendous challenges and rewards — including a career path that might lead you to stages in Toronto, Broadway, London and beyond.
All that hard work will pay off when you take the stage. The music theatre program puts on six musicals a year in Theatre Sheridan at the Trafalgar Road Campus in Oakville, as well as a number of theatrical productions in the Studio Theatre. In addition, every student has individual performances in acting, dance and commercial singing.
By the time you earn your Music Theatre Performance degree you’ll be a genuine “triple threat” — acting, singing and dancing — with solid audition skills and a list of performing credits. And you might already have a name and a reputation among professional artistic directors and recruiters.
Upon graduation, most often more than 80% of graduates immediately find representation by major agents and/or contractual employment, often in major Toronto, West End and Broadway commercial resident productions or national tours of such musicals as Jesus Christ Superstar, Spring Awakening, Rock of Ages, American Idiot, West Side Story, Mary Poppins, Jersey Boys, Les Misérables, Rent, Tommy, Beauty and the Beast, Mamma Mia! and Phantom of the Opera.
Sheridan has been granted a consent by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to offer this degree for a further seven-year term starting July 28, 2017 and subject to renewal thereafter. Application to the Ministry for renewal of the consent is a prescribed and cyclical requirement for degree programs at all Ontario Colleges. Sheridan will ensure that all students admitted to the Honours Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance program during the period of consent will have the opportunity to complete the program within a reasonable time frame. Credentials earned during the period of consent remain valid, even if Ministry consent to offer the program is withdrawn in the future. Prospective students are responsible for satisfying themselves that the program and the degree will be appropriate to their needs (e.g., acceptable to potential employers, professional licensing bodies, or other educational institutions).
