Kirsten Abrahamson joined the Sheridan faculty in 2007. In her continuing role as an instructor she taught  Colour Theory, Painting, and 3-D Design in Art Fundamentals.  From 2008 - 2018,  she also developed and taught the Business for the Arts course in the Visual and Creative Arts program. In 2018, she accepted the position as Course Leader for Colour Theory and Painting in the Art Fundamentals Certificate Program. Kirsten also heads up the Sheridan Art Hive Initiative which centers around wellness, EDI, and sustainability. The Art Hive is for the entire Sheridan community to partake in, and Kirsten is working to build it up to be a regular and continuing event at Sheridan for students, staff and faculty.

Prior to working at Sheridan, Kirsten taught in several Art Programs including the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary and, the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo. She has also held administrative positions in the Cultural Services department at the City of Calgary doing course programming and event planning. She also worked in research positions at the Illingworth Kerr Gallery (formerly Alberta College of Art Gallery) in Calgary.

Kirsten earned diplomas from the Alberta College of Art and Design in both Ceramics, and Glassblowing. She obtained her BFA, and MFA from the University of Calgary. She has attended the Banff Centre for the Arts for both workshops and residencies, and has been Artist in Residence at Red Deer College, Alberta College of Art and Design, and at the Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School in Okotoks, Alberta.

Kirsten has maintained an active studio practice for over three decades. She has an extensive exhibition record which includes provincial, national, and international venues. She has been the recipient of several awards including; the Alberta College of Art Alumni Award of Excellence, and The Public Prize, 10th Bienniale of Ceramics, in Trios-Riviers, Quebec.  She had the honour of having her work featured in the University of Calgary Art Faculty and Alumni 50th anniversary show.

Kirsten’s work is represented in prominent Canadian Art Collections including The Alberta Foundation for the Arts, The Nickle Arts Museum in Calgary, The former Claridge Collection, Montreal, QC, and the Burlington Art Centre, Burlington, Ontario as well as in numerous private collections across Canada and the USA.
